A Tale of Two Sisters

I always wondered why our Glendale Cemetery family burial plot in Akron had a large monument stone labeled "CURTIS AND HOLLOWAY 1891". Nobody seemed to know the answer. After researching our family tree the story became clear, as seen by the following historical timeline.

In 1809 James Holmes was born in Canada, and in 1811 his future wife Mary Ann was born in England.
On October 4, 1834 Elial T. Curtis (sometimes spelled Curtiss) was born in Senica County, Ohio.
In January 1842 Albert E. Holloway (the youngest son of Rev. Joseph T. and Susan Holloway) was born in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
James and Mary Ann Holmes had two daughters: Mary Elizabeth "Lizzie" Holmes, born on April 16, 1842, and Emma E. Holmes, born on June 19, 1846.
On April 13, 1863 in Summit County, Ohio Lizzie Holmes married Elial T. Curtis, a clerk to postmaster Richard Elkins.
On March 26, 1864 Lizzie and Elial's daughter Minnie Curtis was born.
On August 23, 1865 Lizzie and Elial's daughter Grace Curtis was born but died six days later, and was buried in Akron Rural Cemetery section 3 lot 63.
On September 23, 1865 Minnie Curtis died at age 1 year 5 months 28 days and was buried with her sister in Akron Rural Cemetery section 3 lot 63.
On December 15, 1865 in Summit County, Ohio Emma Holmes married Albert E. Holloway, a Railroad Engineer on the
                     Akron, Cleveland and Columbus line.
In 1870 both the Curtis and Holloway families lived in Akron, Ohio.
On March 20, 1874 Albert E. and Emma's daughter Josie Holloway was born. 
On April 22, 1875 Elial Curtis died of pneumonia and was buried in Akron Rural Cemetery, section 3 lot 68.
On Septermber 27, 1878 Josie Holloway died of brain fever at age 4 years 4 months 7 days and was buried with her cousins
                       in Akron Rural Cemetery section 3 lot 63.
After Elial's death, his wife Lizzie Curtis was his only heir and she set up a boardinghouse on 143 S. Broadway
                     and ran it with her sister Emma Holloway.
On April 12, 1876 Emma and Albert E. Holloway's son Albert C. Holloway was born.
On April 27, 1879 Albert E. Holloway died of consumption and was buried in Akron Rural Cemetery section 21 lot 18.
On August 12, 1879 the sisters Mrs. E. J. Curtis and Mrs. A. E. Holloway received the deed for the family burial plot
                   in Akron Rural Cemetery (now Glendale Cemetery) section 21 lot 18 for $97.80 (326 superficial feet).
Elial, Minnie, Grace Curtis's and Josie Holloway's remains were moved from section 3 to section 21 lot 18 in Akron Rural Cemetery. 
In 1880 Lizzie M. Curtis, Emma E. and Albert C. Holloway lived at 143 S. Broadway in Akron, Ohio.
On May 20, 1891 Emma E. Holloway died and was buried next to her husband in Akron Rural Cemetery section 21 lot 18.
Albert C. Holloway and his aunt Lizzie Curtis continued to live at 143 S. Broadway in Akron, Ohio while Albert attended the local college.
On February 15, 1898 the battleship "Maine" was blown up in Havanna harbor, and a few weeks later Albert enlisted in company B,
                     8th infantry regiment of the Ohio National Guard.
On April 28, 1898 Albert's regiment shipped out and went to Camp Bushnell in Columbus, Ohio.
In May, 1898 Albert's regiment went to Washington DC, and then to Fairfax Virginia.
In July, 1898 Albert's regiment sailed to Santiago, Cuba and camped there until Spain surrendered on July 14, 1898.
In August, 1898 Albert's regiment sailed back to New York.
On November 20, 1898 Albert mustered out of the military at Wooster, Ohio. 
In 1900 Lizzie M. Curtis and Albert C. Holloway lived at 143 S. Broadway in Akron, Ohio.
On April 23, 1903 Albert C. Holloway married Edna Diebolt of Cleveland in Cuyahoga county, Ohio.
On March 19, 1904 son Harry Diebolt Holloway was born to Albert and Edna Holloway.
On February 12, 1906 Lizzie Curtis died and was buried next to her sister in Akron Rural Cemetery section 21 lot 18.
On June 20, 1906 Albert C. Holloway paid the Akron Rural Cemetery $81.50 for a contract to maintain lot 18 in section 21
                 "to cause the grass which shall grow upon said lot to be cut and removed from said lot,
                  to cause the said lot to be re-sodded and forever kept in order by top-dressing".
On September 18, 1909 daughter Margaret Josephine Holloway was born to Albert and Edna Holloway.
In 1910 attorney Albert C. and Edna Holloway and family lived at 63 West Miller Ave in Akron, Ohio.
In 1923 Harry D. Hollway married Margaret Barr of Brocton in Chautauqua county, New York.
On February 15, 1925 infant Holloway was born to Margaret and Harry D. Holloway in Kenmore, Ohio, but died at birth.
On February 16, 1925 infant Holloway was buried in the now called Glendale Cemetery section 21 lot 18.
In 1926 an infant named Harry Holloway was buried in Glendale Cemetery section 21 lot 18. 
On January 23, 1933 Albert C. Holloway died and was buried in Glendale Cemetery section 21 lot 18.
On July 1, 1933 Margaret J. Holloway married Charles Paul Hughes of Akron, Ohio.
On October 5, 1940 Edna Diebolt Holloway married Alexander Frank of Cincinnati in Hamilton county, Ohio.
On December 13, 1947 Harry D. Holloway died and was buried in Glendale Cemetery section 21 lot 18.
On April 27, 1957 Margaret J. Holloway died and was buried in Glendale Cemetery section 21 lot 18.
On November 6, 1965 Edna Holloway Frank died and was buried in Glendale Cemetery section 21 lot 18.
On August 19, 1971 C. Paul Hughes died and was buried in Glendale Cemetery section 21 lot 18.
